What to expect

Every appointment is tailored to you, your symptoms, your goals, and what feels comfortable for your body. It is, at the end of the day, your treatment.

  • Your initial consultation includes assessment, diagnosis, and usually treatment on the same day.

    1. Listen & Understand

    We begin by discussing:

    • your symptoms and medical history

    • lifestyle, work, and activity levels

    • your goals for treatment

    • anything you’re worried about

This helps us understand not just where it hurts, but why.

    2. Assessment

You may be asked to perform a few simple movements so we can assess how your body moves and functions.

    This may include:

    • posture and movement assessment

    • joint and muscle testing

    • orthopaedic or neurological checks where needed

We’ll explain everything as we go, and you’re always in control.

    3. Diagnosis & Plan

We’ll talk through what we’ve found in clear, straightforward language and agree on a treatment plan together.

If treatment is appropriate, it usually begins during your first visit.

    4. Treatment

Treatment is adapted to your comfort level and preferences and may include:

    • Hands-on osteopathic techniques

    • Joint mobilisation or manipulation (when appropriate)

    • Soft tissue and muscle work

    • Gentle stretching or mobility work

    • Rehabilitation exercises

    • Postural and activity advice

    • Dry needling

Our focus is helping you feel better and giving you tools to stay well between sessions.

  • Follow-up sessions focus on progressing your recovery and adapting treatment as you improve.

    This typically involves:

    • reviewing progress

    • hands-on treatment where helpful

    • progressing exercises and movement goals

    • guidance for returning to normal activities or sport

The number of sessions varies for each person, but many patients notice improvement within the first few visits.

  • You may be asked to remove your outer clothing (not underwear) so the affected area can be viewed fully, and movement can be assessed properly. Comfortable clothing such as shorts and sports bras are often suitable, however we will be able to work around whatever your preferences are.

This typically settles within 24–48 hours. We always work within your comfort level and maintain open communication throughout.

If a stronger technique is used your osteopath with maintain clear and constant communication throughout and adjust pressure appropriately.

If you are uncomfortable with any technique for any reason we will completely respect and work around that. We will never force you into having any treatment you do not wish to receive.
